At age 19, Ramsay Jr. got serious about getting a certificate in cooking. He worked at the Wroxton House Hotel and the Wickham Arms in the early 1980s. He moved to London and worked in a number of different restaurants there.

In 1996, he married Cayetana (Tana) Elizabeth Hutcheson, a teacher who had studied Montessori. They have four kids: Megan (1998), twins Jack and Holly (2000), and Matilda (2002). The couple splits their time between Wandsworth Common in London and Los Angeles.
