Early Life of Clarence Thomas

Clarence Thomas was born in Pin Point, Georgia in June 1948. Following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., he reportedly dropped out of Conception Seminary College. Thomas explained later that he decided to leave the classroom after overhearing a classmate’s remark “Good. I hope the son of a whore is deceased “one day after the murder. This incident led Clarence to the conclusion that the Catholic church was not doing enough to eradicate racism among future priests.

Subsequently, as a sophomore, he transferred to Holy Cross College. He assisted in the formation of the school’s Black Student Union. He majored in English literature and received his degree with distinction in 1971. In 1974, Clarence graduated from Yale Law School in the middle of his class with a Juris Doctor degree.

Career

After receiving his degree, Clarence relocated to Missouri to practise law. After passing the bar exam, he was hired as an assistant attorney general for the state of Missouri, reporting to John Danforth, the state’s attorney general. From 1974 until 1977, he maintained this position before joining the Monsanto Chemical Company as an attorney.

Clarence moved to Washington, D.C. in 1979 to work for John Danforth, who had been elected to the United States Senate by that time.

Clarence served as a legislative assistant for the Senate Commerce Committee from 1979 to 1981, working mostly on energy issues.

From 1981 to 1982, Clarence served as Assistant Secretary of Education for the Office of Civil Rights. Thomas served as head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from May 1982 until March 1990.

In October 1989, George H. W. Bush nominated him for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

She claims that he frequently asked her out on dates and made sexually explicit remarks. Thomas allegedly boasted about his sexual abilities while describing his body.

Clarence Thomas was officially confirmed as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court on October 15, 1991.
