When he passed away on November 12, 2003, it was a very sad day for all of his friends and supporters. As his closest friends observed, Jonathan’s career was in decline, and despite his best efforts to turn things around, he had been unable to do so. Jonathan was unable to fight his chronic depression, just like many others before and after him. Before committing suicide, Jonathan began abusing alcohol, according to his friends. He hanged himself on November 11 in the hallway of his Los Angeles apartment without leaving a note, but his friends believed that he was generally unhappy and dissatisfied with his life.
He was taken to the hospital by medical personnel, but he passed away on November 12 in the morning from neck injuries. Jonathan was cremated after his death. He belonged to the Club 27 of famous people who died at the age of 27, along with Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of “Nirvana,” electric guitarist Jimi Hendrix, vocalist Janis Joplin, and pianist and composer Alexandre Levy.
