On Christmas Eve in 2020, Lil Durk released a tribute album called “The Voice” in Von’s memory. Von is featured on the album’s cover alongside Lil Durk and on the song “Still Trappin’.” Another memorial to Von was a mural that Chris Devins painted in Chicago.
King Von debuted his track “Crazy Story” on December 6, 2018, and it quickly became his breakthrough song after fellow rapper Lil Durk signed him to his Only the Family (formerly known as Only Trey Folks) label.
On Valentine’s Day 2019, Von’s girlfriend, rapper Asian Doll, released a music video for her track about the artist, “Grandson,” in which Von appeared. Bennett and Texas rapper Asian Doll had an on-again, off-again romance, but they were apparently not together when Bennett passed away.
Bennett was taken into custody on 21 November 2012 and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun.
Bennett was detained on July 24, 2014, in connection with a shooting that took place in May 2014 that left Malcolm Stuckey dead and two other men wounded. Bennett and Lil Durk, actual name Durk Derrick Banks, were detained in June 2019 in connection with an Atlanta shooting. In a Fulton County courthouse, Bennett and his co-defendant Banks stood before the judge for a probable cause hearing. On February 5, 2019, near a well-known drive-in, the two rappers allegedly robbed and shot Alexander Witherspoon, according to the prosecution. Durk was released from jail after several weeks on a $250,000 bond, while Von was freed on a $300,000 bond.
The Chicago Police concluded in July 2021 that Bennett was the shooter who killed 17-year-old Gangster Disciples member Gakirah “K.I.” Barnes in April 2014, but they were unable to charge him because of contradictions in witness accounts.
