Amazing Spider-Man 3: Why Was It Cancelled and Other Updates!

Fans of Andrew Garfield‘s Spider-Man have been clamoring for him to return since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. When The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out, Sony’s Spider-Man movie was the final one before the character was resurrected in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and its spinoffs, notably The Sinister Six, were supposed to be the start of a new cinematic universe, but they were scrapped. Garfield described the event as “heartbreaking”.

Fresh interest in Garfield’s Spider-Man may lead to a follow-up, but it’s not clear yet. Here is everything to know about The Amazing Spider-Man 3’s initial planning and why it was canceled.

Amazing Spider-Man 3: What was the plan?

Amazing Spider-Man 3

Both Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 had release dates set for June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018, respectively, but were never released. According to Collider, Paul Giamatti has also stated that he will reprise his role as the Rhino in the third film.

However, there was a significant delay in showings. A bad sign was provided by Marc Webb’s announcement that he would only return to shoot the third film and merely serve as a consultant on the fourth. In the end, all of the planned films were canceled.

That the studio, which had such grand ambitions for the character, would suddenly abandon them was also puzzling. It would be one thing if they simply postponed or halted everything.

There could be a problem with the script or a scheduling conflict if that’s what’s going on. The fact that a show was canceled was a sign that something more serious was going on.

Amazing Spider-Man 3: Who was involved?

Both Andrew Garfield, who played Spider-Man, and director Marc Webb have stated that they will be returning. If The Amazing Spider-Man 3 had been released, Webb claimed that it would have been his final Spider-Man film in his role as director.

Even yet, Webb would have kept on as producer and creative consultant for the following films in the franchise, if they had been released. Additionally, it was reported that all three writers from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner, would return for the sequel to their respective films.

But the film’s writer and director, Roberto Orci, left to write and direct Star Trek Beyond (2016), albeit he also quit that project while maintaining a producer credit on the film.

Amazing Spider-Man 3: What was the expected storyline from the movie?

Once Peter had dealt with Green Goblin, we may have seen how he would have dealt with Gwen Stacy’s death that took place during the incidents of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. When it was revealed at the end of the previous film that the Sinister Six had a bad guy in store for Peter in the third film in the series, we knew we were in for a treat.

Although we’ve seen two prequels and a side story involving the web-slinger character, there was no such movie made as The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

While The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received poor reviews from the critics, Sony agreed to work with Marvel Studios and bring Spider-Man into the MCU. The decision to cast Tom Holland as Spider-Man paid dividends.

And also, we can’t help but wonder if Gwen Stacy will make an appearance in the sequel trilogy of the TASM series, which has been rumored for some time now.

Amazing Spider-Man 3: Why was it Cancelled?

The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield, marked a new beginning for the Spider-Man franchise in 2012. Andrew’s on-screen and off-screen chemistry with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacey was a hit with viewers.

Andrew may not be returning for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, according to speculations that began to swirl after the film’s underwhelming box office performance in 2014. After a year, emails from the Sony breaches revealed that Andrew was sacked for allegedly disrespecting a Sony official.

When Sony’s Kaz Hirai was scheduled to unveil The Amazing Spider-Man 3 for a 2016 release, Andrew decided not to attend the banquet where Kaz was scheduled to make the announcement. A few minutes before the gala’s scheduled start time, “Andrew decides he doesn’t want to attend.”

Amazing Spider-Man 3: Will it happen in the future?

That’s the huge question on everyone’s lips right now, but no one is saying anything, most likely because no one knows the answer for sure. After the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony, and Marvel have undoubtedly realized that the public is ravenous for the character, and there is already a plethora of new material in the works.

Morbius will be here in a few months, so prepare yourselves. A film adaptation of Kraven the Hunter is in the works. Not to mention the two animated Spider-Verse films and early speculation about a new Tom Holland picture that will start up where No Way Home left off in the franchise.

On top of all of that, is there even room for another live-action Spider-Man movie to be made? We can take solace in the fact that Spider-Man: No Way Home taught us something: the more Spider-People, the better.
