Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson, two nontraditional lovers, found each other in a Netflix social experiment. The two of them first crossed paths on the 2022 season of the streaming service’s popular reality show Love Is Blind.
Ruhl and Thompson were the first engaged couple of the season. On June 8, 2021, the couple tied the knot in Chicago. When Ruhl and Thompson had been married for almost a year, in August of 2022, Ruhl filed for divorce.

Thompson disclosed that they had been attending couples counselling for virtually the entire period since the conclusion of the show, in an interview with PEOPLE published a few months before their breakup.

Viewers of Love is Blind May Be Curious About What Transpired Between Danielle and Nick
Even at the outset, these two were great friends. They hit it off so well right away that they got engaged after the pilot.
After that, though, things were anything but tranquil. After Danielle got sick from the Mexican food, Nick abandoned her to go meet the rest of the cast. Nick was not the most considerate fiancée. But Danielle was not persuaded, and a heated debate erupted. During our talk, Danielle admitted that she often feels jealous and insecure in relationships.

Why Did They Decide to Break Up?
To hear Nick tell it, there wasn’t “a great catastrophic incident” that destroyed everything. However, he explained his decision to end the relationship in an interview with Us Weekly, saying, “I wasn’t feeling like I was getting the partnership I needed to be successful and to kind of move ahead with the relationship.”

When asked about their relationship following the release of Love Is Blind, he said, “As we moved forward and we started integrating our lives together, you start to realise sort of certain gaps that you don’t detect [right away] based on the way that we met.” In the past, your steps were mapped out for you; now, you must take the initiative yourself.
They’re No Longer in Communication With One Another
Neither ex wants to talk to the other right now. ‘I have to create a barrier with her that I’m not engaging anymore for the benefit of my mental health and healing,’ Nick told Us Weekly.
Danielle cited “personal compatibility difficulties” as the reason for the split, as reported by ET Online.
As Danielle said in a now-deleted Instagram video, “We were extremely polite and civil at first, and that’s why people were kind of puzzled with some of the back and forth that transpired,” ET reports.
Nick made a statement in September expressing his disappointment in the breakup. In spite of this, he was quoted as saying, “I know in my heart that I did the best I could and gave it everything I had,” by ET Online.

What Did Danielle Say?
After being married since June 2021, PEOPLE learned that Danielle filed for divorce from Nick in August 2022.
They had talked freely about going to couples therapy right before they split up. Nick told Us Weekly, “I think the biggest challenge for us was losing the structure of the programme.” It dawned on us very fast that, well, wait a minute, two months ago we weren’t married, we were single. As everyone knows (or doesn’t), we’ve already met, fallen in love, gotten married, established friends, and started a family.
The question then becomes, “How do you navigate these waters and how do you go from doing anything you want two months ago to, like, being part of a family?”
Danielle, you speak French, the couple’s therapist stated in all sincerity. He also has a working knowledge of German. And it doesn’t even work when you’re actually having a conversation. And it can take months, even years before we can finally start talking to each other,” Danielle said.

Nick asked his Instagram Story fans on October 1 which of his former Love Is Blind co-stars would perish first in a Scream-like scenario. Some saw this as evidence that he meant to propagate rumours about his ex and their mutual friends in public.

Danielle commented on social media. “One of our mutual friends informed me that Nick was about to go live on Instagram to talk trash about me and all the other girls, including Natalie [Lee] and Iyanna [McNeely],” she explained in her Instagram story.
She inquired rhetorically, “Do you want me to carry out the same action?” “I do not want this to turn into a bloodbath.”
