Carnival Row Season 2: How Soon Will Season 2 of Carnival Row Premiere?

The television show Carnival Row is a neo-noir fantasy. Carnival Row will return for a second season on Amazon Prime Video.

Season 2 of Carnival Row is planned for early 2022. Production on Season 2 of Carnival Row has not progressed further.

Philo spends the first season looking into a series of brutal murders and eventually discovers that the Darkasher, a terrifying creature made from human corpses, is responsible.

The monster was under the control of Piety Breakspear (Indira Varma), who was looking for the identity of her husband’s illegitimate child, but she was killed by Vignette.

At the end of the season, the Fae and other magical creatures are separated from “normal” people in the Burgue, leading to widespread anarchy.

In spite of this, Philo decides to stick with Vignette out of solidarity after he admits to being half-Fae. Who says love doesn’t last anymore, huh?

Fae will likely try to resist Chancellor Jonah Breakspear’s (Artemas Froushan) racist legislation. It will be intriguing to see how new showrunner Erik Oleson interprets this terrifying idea through the neo-noir fantasy lens of Carnival Row.

Tamzin Merchant told EW, “Imogen and Agreus [David Gyasi] get on the ship at the end of season 1, and everything is grand for the first five minutes of season 2 — and then things go very badly wrong for them.” This is a hint at what will happen to the couple in the upcoming season. Oh, no.

Be forewarned that Amazon’s Carnival Row’s greatest strength, its ambitious, sweeping scale, is also its greatest weakness if you decide to explore its vast world.

Carnival Row is a meticulously realised project by Travis Beacham (who originally developed the idea as a spec film script that hit The Blacklist, Hollywood’s repository for the best unproduced screenplays, in 2005) and René Echevarria, with assistance from fellow executive producer Marc Guggenheim, attempting many goals with varying degrees of success.

For starters, it’s a period murder mystery in the vein of The Alienist, a neo-Victorian fantasy full of supernatural creatures like Penny Dreadful, an intricate political saga with echoes of Game of Thrones, and an examination of class and racial divides in the vein of Downton Abbey.

This all takes place in a city called The Burgue (where the eponymous Carnival Row is located), a city on the verge of exploding due to rising tensions between its human citizens and the displaced supernatural creatures like faeries, fauns, centaurs, and kobolds.

You’ll need to pay attention in the first few episodes if you want to keep every species and political affiliation straight, as the show has plenty of slurs for these fantastical beasts (faeries are called “pix,” fauns are called “pucks,” and collectively, all non-human creatures are called “critch”).

But despite its lofty aspirations, the supernatural fantasy series may leave you wishing it had picked one lane instead of hogging the entire road because of its jack-of-all-trades approach that undermines some of Carnival Row’s most potent themes. And yet, the show’s willingness to try new things is what really makes Carnival Row stand out; despite its obvious inspiration from other, more successful fantasy series, nothing else on television compares to it.

Central to the series is the tragic love story of a faerie refugee named Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) and a Burguish detective named Rycroft Philostrate (“Philo” for short, thank goodness) played by Orlando Bloom. Years after their last encounter, when Vignette moves to the Row and Philo is working as a local police inspector looking into a series of murders, their paths cross again.

While Bloom isn’t given much to do besides glower and brood in the first few episodes, his role deepens in fascinating ways as the show progresses, and Delevingne is perfectly cast as the prickly and resilient fae freedom fighter.
