Doctor Who season 14 Potential Release Date: When Will It Air?

Following Jodie Whittaker’s final appearance as the Thirteenth Doctor, and that highly anticipated and unexpected regeneration, the BBC has confirmed when we can expect new episodes, including our first look at Ncuti Gatwa in action as the future Doctor.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait quite some time.

Mark November 2023 on your calendars for the 60th anniversary specials, which will feature fan favourites David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

Gatwa’s first full episode as the Doctor will air around the holidays in 2023.

Doctor Who season 14 Cast: Who’s in the New Season?

As is customary with a handover, Russell T Davies’ return as showrunner heralds the arrival of a brand-new Doctor. Fans who anticipated the reveal in Jodie Whittaker’s final adventure were surprised to learn on May 8, 2022, that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa had already been confirmed as our brand-new Doctor. “There aren’t quite the words to describe how I feel,” Gatwa said of this momentous occasion. “I’m feeling deeply honoured, ecstatic, and, of course, a little scared. “This role and show mean so much to so many people all over the world, including myself, and each of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that special responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.

I will give it my all. “Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent, and dangerous. A metaphorical playground for actors. “The entire team has been so warm and welcoming, and they truly put their hearts into the show.” As daunting as it is, I am aware that I am joining a very supportive family. I may only have one heart, unlike the Doctor, but I’m giving it all to this show. “Nobody else has been officially announced for the new season 14 cast, though some of the fan favourites for the Doctor may end up appearing in a different capacity. This includes someone we’ve met before, Jo Martin, who could easily take the lead as the Fugitive Doctor.

Doctor Who season 14 Plot: What Will Happen?

Even before Russell’s return was announced, Piers Wenger, the BBC’s Director of Drama, stated (via Elliot Gonzalez), “As with any change of Doctor and showrunner, we’ll be radical […] Change is on the way.” Few could have predicted that this change would include the return of Doctor Whose most popular showrunner years after he left the show for the first time. Russell had this to say about it:

“I’m overjoyed to be back on my favourite show, but we’re going too fast; there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm; I’m still a viewer for the time being.” Chibnall said of his replacement, “It’s monumentally exciting and fitting that one of Britain’s screenwriting diamonds returns home for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary.” Russell created the baton that is about to be returned to him. “Doctor Who, the BBC, the Welsh screen industry, and, let’s be honest, everyone in the world has a lot of reasons to be Very Excited Indeed about what’s coming up.”

Fans were concerned when it was announced that Bad Wolf would take over production of Doctor Who from BBC Studios, potentially costing the BBC £40 million for every ten episodes produced. Importantly, The Times’ report suggested that Bad Wolf would also take control of “creative direction,” but the BBC has since pushed back, clarifying that commercial oversight would continue. “We’re very excited about Doctor Who’s future. BBC Studios is ultimately responsible for delivering the show, and this production partnership is about long-term investment that will radically expand on the show’s and franchise’s already massive global success.

Doctor Who Season 14

“According to a BBC representative. Let’s hope Russell is still able to put his stamp on the show, possibly even bringing us more positive LGBTQ+ content than Doctor Who has ever seen. The Flux finale hinted at Yaz and the Doctor’s queer love, but hinting isn’t enough. Furthermore, Jodie Whittaker’s final episode did very little to advance this. It’s past time for Doctor Who to embrace the present with a queer Doctor at the helm. Given all of this, we wouldn’t be surprised if Russell used this opportunity to make Ncuti’s Doctor gay.

Doctor Who season 14 Trailer: When Can We See It?

An exciting trailer has now given fans a sneak peek at what’s to come next year.

It naturally provided a first look at Ncuti Gatwa in action, with a brief clip showing the new Doctor passionately yelling, “Will someone tell me what the hell is going on here?”

Russell T Davies has also confirmed that Ncuti will be the Fifteenth Doctor, following the regeneration that brought David Tennant back to the role (presumably as the Fourteenth).

“If you thought David Tennant’s appearance was shocking, we’ve got plenty more surprises in store!” he teased. “There is mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger, and fun on the path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor!”
