Finally, Lyra’s fantasy narrative comes to a tragic climax in the last book of His Dark Materials.
The third and final season, based on Phillip Pullman’s third novel, The Amber Spyglass, is expected to air before the end of 2022. Nonetheless, it was a painful farewell for the whole group, including Dafne Keen as the show’s protagonist.
“I’m didn’t want to think about because I think lots but I’m really, truly looking forward to going back,” Keen said in December 2020 to Collider. “As we’ve known each other for a long time, the cast and crew are becoming my second family. They’ve watched me grow, and I miss them a great deal.

Season 3 of “His Dark Materials” Release date
The third season of His Dark Materials has yet to get an official air date.
After filming concluded at the end of November 2021, it is presently in post-production. This has been a wonderful six-year voyage through the Worlds of #HisDarkMaterials, but it’s time to lock the doors on the last chapter,” the official His Dark Materials Twitter account said. Previously, the BBC and HBO gave the previous two seasons top placement in their winter schedules, releasing them in November and running them through December, wrapping them up just before Christmas. Who’s in the cast of His Dark Materials season 3?
The following actors and actresses have been verified by the BBC: Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson), Mrs. Malone, Serafina Pekkala, Mary Malone, Father MacPhail (Will Keen) and Lord Asriel appear in this adaptation of the novel by Dafne Keen (James McAvoy).
At the end of season two, Lord Asriel appeared in a brief cameo appearance, after having been missing for much of Lyra’s journey. Having known him as her aunt for her whole life, Lyra had no idea he was her biological father until she found out.
After he vanished, it looked like James McAvoy might be unable to reprise his part for the second season due to contractual obligations, but writer Jack Thorne indicated that the actor was essential to the show’s overall success.
James McAvoy came in and gave us a COVID day, saying, “Executive producer Dan McCulloch lifted mountains to make it happen.” What I like most about James is that he stood up and cried to the heavens, and it was a joy to watch.”
“I am grateful to the early reviews for not giving away the ending, and I am glad it was kept a mystery thus far.”
Speaking to Radio Times, McAvoy confessed that he was initially overlooked for the part of Lord Asriel in the first season of Game of Thrones. “It was actually very last minute – I happened to be speaking to the recruiting director, who’s a friend of mine, gushing lyrical about just how much I love the book, and then they got let down by whatever else was handling it initially,” he says.

There’s also the possibility that Roger (Lewin Lloyd), Lyra’s best buddy from season one, will make an appearance.
Season two concluded with the deaths of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Lee Scoresby, Ariyon Bakare’s Lord Boreal, and Andrew Scott’s Colonel John Parry. None of these characters are expected to return, but it does seem plausible that they have.
Lord Asriel’s daemon Stelmaria was voiced by Peaky Blinders actress Helen McCrory, but her death in April 2021 will raise questions about how the show’s makers can move forward without her.
“We haven’t even contemplated it,” remarked McAvoy (via The Times). However, when the subject is broached “someone else will be honoured to step into her shoes,” or “her voicesteps,” as she put it.

The Storyline of His Dark Materials season 3
His Dark Materials’ second season was darker than the first, but the third is expected to be much more bizarre. The third novel in Pullman’s trilogy, which contains a lot of global and an all-out battle with the Magisterium, is certain to be a challenge to adapt.
On top of it, The Amber Spyglass features a struggle against soul-eating spectres and a lengthy excursion to an elephantine realm, where non-humans are classified as “elephantine” by Lyra and Roger. As for Collins, he can’t wait to bring the mulefa to life for the first time on film.
Asriel’s Republic is a “wonderful environment,” the production designer said to RadioTimes.com. “It’s all complicated, but I absolutely have an image of the Mulefa and what their planet is, Asriel’s Republic.”
While turning The Amber Pair of binoculars into a 8 season would be a challenge, the His Dark Materials crew is ready and prepared to take it on.
