My Brilliant Friend Season 3: Is the Series Based on a Novel?

My Brilliant Friend is a dramatic coming-of-age narrative that tackles themes of love, class separation, and social mobility through the lens of the long-lasting friendship between narrator Elena Greco and Lila Cerullo.

Internationally, Ferrante’s book has become a tremendous hit. Even though it’s been lauded as a groundbreaking picture of female friendship, it’s also a sad portrayal of the worst crush you ever had throughout high school. The TV show hasn’t attracted as many viewers, but the ones it does have are devoted, and we’re now all feeling the misery of witnessing the depravities of the show’s most despicable character.

My Brilliant Friend Season 3: Series Storyline

My Brilliant Friend Season 3

Elena “Lenu” Greco (Elisa del Genio) and Lila Cerullo (Ludovica Nasti) are best friends who grow up together and apart in post-war Italy. The story is set in post-war Italy, and the event takes place in a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of the city of Naples.

It is depicted in both the books and television series that there is a conflict between a country’s past and the rise of anti-fascist sentiments in the 1950s, with the richest in the area being benefited from wartime struggles and the poorest seeking a way to put an end to corruption and improve their social standing.

The fact that Lila is a girl and her family cannot afford for her to continue her education, despite the fact that she is extremely clever, forces her to drop out of school. Lenu, on the other hand, is self-deprecating but diligent, and she proceeds to attend college.

The two struggle to balance their feelings of love and admiration for one another with their desire to be the best at what they do, with Lila’s character frequently shown as vicious and vindictive (through the lens of Lenu).

My Brilliant Friend Season 3: Is it based on a novel?

It’s important to note that Seasons 1 and 2 correlate to the first and second books in Elena Ferrante‘s four-book Neapolitan Series, which follows the lives of Lila and Elena and their divergent journeys, as Elena is permitted to attend school while Lila is forced to work in her father’s shoe shop and marry into one of the town’s criminally connected families at the age of 16.

Season 3 is based on the third book in Ferrante’s beloved series, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay, which was released in 2014.
