Samurai Rabbit: the Usagi Chronicles Plot
So far, there isn’t a lot we can say about the movie’s plot. When Stan Sakai wrote Miyamoto Usagi, one thing we know is that many of his stories aren’t written in a way that makes them easy to follow. In his job as a bounty hunter, Usagi spends a lot of time taking on small jobs and simple favors, like protecting families or killing corrupt leaders. If Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles does the same thing, it won’t be a surprise.
There is a part of the show called “Usagi Chronicles” that is interesting, though. It suggests that Yuichi might look back at his ancestor’s quests for help. On paper, Yuichi could be inspired by any Usagi story, but the most likely one is Grasscutter because Saki won an Eisner Award for it in 1999. This is the name of the powerful sword that Usagi gets.
The sword has the power of the gods and is sought after by a group of people called the Conspiracy of Eight. They want to use the sword to overthrow the Shogunate and restore the power of the Emperor, so they want to get the sword.
This story is very much like the rest of Usagi Yojimbo. It is full of Japanese history and mythology, like a lot of the rest. There’s no reason to be surprised if Samurai Rabbit used the Kusanagi in its storyline.
