Future first-person shooter survival horror video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was created and produced by Ukrainian game company GSC Game World. It will be the fourth installment in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game series and the first to be released on consoles, following the release of Call of Pripyat in 2009. It will be available for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox Series X/S.
Prior to being finally canceled on the year of its intended release, it was initially announced following the release of Call of Pripyat with a 2012 release date. Years later, in 2018, the game reappeared. The Unreal Engine 5-powered work was restarted. The game’s release date was set for December 8, 2022, but because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, development was postponed. The development team later clarified on their official Discord channel, though, that the procedure is still in progress and that the delivery date is presently set for 2023.

The game’s development was ambitious; it was announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 would be compatible with a brand-new multiplatform engine that was created specifically for the game. The number of GSC employees has decreased by 75% as a result of numerous layoffs and general attrition during the game’s production. After two years, Grygorovych declared that all development will immediately stop for “personal reasons,” which was probably the result of financial hardship.
On December 9, 2011, GSC Game World was declared inactive. A tweet from the official Twitter account “We’ll try our best to keep going. However, nothing is guaranteed just now. ” A post with an update stating that the development would continue after the holidays was made after several months of uncertainty. However, funds would be needed.
However, the cancellation of this build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 had been officially revealed in April 2012 on the business’s Facebook page, with the official statement that it was the consequence of a disagreement between investors, staff, and the developer.
Game release
At launch, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass.
