Meg 2: The Trench, which stars Jason Statham, takes us back to the world of the prehistoric shark, and now we know when it will come out. During the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon, it was announced that Meg 2: The Trench would be in theatres when most people were going to the beach.
With a release date of August 4, 2023, there will be almost 5 years between The Meg and its sequel, but fans are still excited to see Statham back as Jonas Taylor. Even though we don’t know much about the movie, we do know that it was written by Dean Georgaris, Ric Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber, and that action star Wu Jing is in it. The next big thing we know about the movie is when it will come out.
The Meg took us to the Mariana Trench, so we could, in theory, explore more of the Trench since its name is in the second movie’s title. Even though they killed the mega-shark in the end, that doesn’t mean there won’t be more of them coming after Jonas Taylor and his crew. It seemed like more than one Meg had gotten out of the Trench, even more so.
‘The Meg 2’ Reveals a Title as Production on the Sequel Begins
Let’s talk about the date of the release right away. Meg 2: The Trench will come out in the US on August 4, 2023, according to Warner Bros. Pictures. Yes, the movie will come out in 2023, and work on it has already begun.

Meg 2: The Trench Making Plan
In April 2018, Jason Statham said that a second movie would be about The Meg if people liked the first one.
Jason said, “I think it’s like anything else today: if it makes money, people want to make more money from it. And if it doesn’t do well, they will quickly forget about it. But that’s how things work in Hollywood.

Steve Alten said in August 2018 that this franchise is worth $1 billion.

The Meg 2 Plot Speculation
Who knows? Based on the first movie, anything can happen in The Meg’s world, and we hope that Ben Wheatley goes all out for the second movie to make it even crazier.
The director has made a lot of good movies with dark humor and horror elements. Since The Meg 2 is set in The Trench, we expect some pretty scary scenes. On the other hand, Wheatley doesn’t know for sure if the movie will get an R rating.
We don’t know anything about the plot yet, so we have to use our imaginations in the meantime. As Jonas Taylor, we know Jason Statham will give another charming, energetic, and badass performance as he enters the water for round 2 with his super-sized enemy.

Why he has to fight the megalodon again is unclear, and we don’t know if it will be the only monster Statham faces. But since we don’t know much about the ocean, we’re sure he’ll find a lot of dangerous enemies down there.
