Top Gun Maverick Release Date Has Been Announced: Finally the Wait Is Over!
It’s been more than 35 years since the first Top Gun, but the Tom Cruise movie is getting a sequel in the form of Top Gun: Maverick. Is Top Gun: Maverick the next film in a long line of sequels for years in the making?
Maverick likes to push things to the limit. Tom Cruise played “Maverick” Mitchell, the hot-shot pilot in the original Top Gun (1986) when he was a young actor. He and his co-pilot, Goose, took part in the best fighter pilot training in the Navy at the time, which was called “Top Gun.”
That ends up getting him in trouble and making him lose his confidence after a tragic accident. But the good news is that he saves the day and gets the girl.
Top Gun is still a favorite today, thanks to a star-making performance from Tom Cruise, memorable supporting characters like Goose and Iceman, great ’80s songs like “Danger Zone” and “Take My Breath Away,” and amazing aerial scenes. Talk about a sequel has been going on for a long time now, and it looks like it will soon be here (after a few delays along the way).
Release Date Of Top Gun Season 2
Let’s cut to the chase before we go into all the delays. Top Gun: Maverick is presently slated to be released in UK cinemas on May 25, 2022, and US cinemas on May 27, 2022.

As per The Wall Street Journal, both Netflix and Apple contacted Paramount to see if the company would sell the movie to them for a streaming premiere. On the other hand, Paramount has stayed with a theatrical release, which is commendable.
If the Top Gun date remains strong, the sequel will come on our screens a little under three years after its original July 12, 2019 date. A delay of a full year before that date was brought forward slightly to June 24, 2020, in the US and July 17, 2020, in the UK.
Paramount then pushed the sequel back to July 2, 2021, only for it to be postponed again to November 19, 2021, and that wasn’t the end of Paramount’s delays, as the sequel was then smacked with another delay to December 23, 2020.
We’re glad that wasn’t the end of the road, but at least now we’ve reached the end of the road.
May 2018 to June 2019 were devoted to the production of the sequel. This was a lifetime ago, so good luck to the actors trying to recall what transpired while on the promotional trail. Good luck to the cast!
Top Gun Maverick Cast
There is no way Hollywood would make a Top Gun sequel and not have Tom Cruise back in the cockpit of a fighter jet. You can’t have a Top Gun movie without Cruise playing Maverick because he’s one of his best-known roles. He will be just shy of 60 when Top Gun: Maverick came out in 2015.
Total Film, a What to Watch sister publication with a new issue out, talked to Cruise about the movie in that issue. They’ve also shown off a few new looks for Cruise and the film.
Cruise isn’t the only cast member who came back from the first movie. Friend and foe: Val Kilmer will play Iceman again in this movie. Anyone who has seen the documentary Val on Prime Video understands that Kilmer now speaks with a voice box because of throat cancer. Kilmer had to come back for the sequel even though Cruise was worried about his health, even though he didn’t want to.
The movie Top Gun: Maverick will also have a lot of new faces in it. There’s a prominent character in this movie which is very important: Miles Teller, who will play the son of will’s old co-pilot Goose called “Rooster.” In addition to Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris, the cast has added Glen Powell, Manny Jacinto, Monica Barbaro, Jean Louis Kelly, and Raymond Lee. Jay Ellis and Charles Parnell also joined the cast.
What Is the Plot of Top Gun Maverick?

Here’s what you need to know about the sequel’s storyline:
After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s best aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs, “pushing the envelope as a brave test pilot and avoiding the promotion in rank that would have stopped him,” it says in the text.
The son of Maverick’s friend and Radar Intercept Officer, Lt Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose,” is called “Rooster.” Maverick is training a group of Top Gun graduates for a special mission that no living pilot has ever seen.
When Maverick faces an uncertain future and the ghosts of his past, his deepest fears get the best of him. This leads to a mission that requires the ultimate sacrifice from the people who fly it.
The world may have changed since the first movie for Maverick, but you can still expect him to fly very high and do dangerous things. The crew had to ask the Navy for permission to shoot one of the most dangerous stunts.
When people said there was no CGI in this movie, they made this fantastic video to show you.
Added Bruckheimer: “What makes this movie different from the original Top Gun is that, in that movie, when we put the actors in F-14s, we couldn’t use one frame of them because they all threw up.”
Their eyes are rolling back in their heads, and it’s so funny! That’s how everything was done. But in this movie, Tom wanted to make sure that the actors could ride in the F-18s. This is why.
Miles Teller said that preparing for the movie was like being in “Tom Cruise boot camp.” This means that we can expect many actions and flying scenes that might be worth the long wait for the sequel.
“We were all little Toms when we made this movie,” he said. “We were in great shape. This kind of training is also used for the stunts and other things Tom does in movies.
In this case, you’re not just going to the gym to lift weights. Our flight training took place over three months before we started making the movie. We went through the wringer.
