Yu Yu Hakusho Release Date: Who Will Be the Cast in This Season?
Yoshihiro Togashi’s classic Shonen Jump manga Yu Yu Hakusho is being made into a live-action movie by Netflix. The streamer first announced this project in December 2020. This is not the first time the streaming giant has made a manga or anime series into a live-action movie.
This isn’t the first time Yu Yu Hakusho has been turned into a live-action show. Adam Wingard’s live-action Death Note movie came out on Netflix in 2017. There will also be a live-action version of One Piece on Netflix. In Japan, the series was turned into a stage play, and fans are excited to see how Netflix will adapt one of the best shonen anime shows of all time.
In 1990, the first chapter of Yu Yu Hakusho came out in Shonen Jump. It was about a young criminal named Yusuke. Yusuke saves a child from a speeding car. When he dies, his ghost is given a chance to come back to life if he passes some tests, but that’s just the start.
The Dark Tournament Saga is the most prominent part of the series. In it, Yusuke and his team made up of Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara, and Genkai, fight supernatural groups. The anime version of the book came out in Japan in 1992. It had 112 episodes and an IMDb score of 8.4. After 175 chapters, the series came to an end in 1994. Now, fans can’t wait to see Netflix’s live-action version of the classic shonen series.
Release Date
According to collider, Welcome to the world of the dead. A live-action version of the famous manga YuYu Hakusho, written and drawn by the legendary manga writer Yoshihiro Togashi, who also made the fan-favorite Hunter x Hunter, will come out on Netflix in 2023. The show will join the live-action versions of Cowboy Bebop and One Piece that are already in the works on Netflix.
YuYu Hakusho told the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teen criminal who dies when he tries to save a child and gets hit by a car. Yusuke is brought back to life after he passes a series of tests given to him by the son of the ruler of the Underworld.

Variety said that Takumi Kitamura (Tokyo Revengers) would play Yusuke Urameshi in the live-action version of Yu Yu Hakusho on Netflix.
Another tweet said that filming had begun in June 2021 in Tokyo, Japan, and that Netflix had already built a whole business district to serve as the background.

“Yu Yu Hakusho, which will be shown as a live-action show on Netflix, started to be filmed in my neighborhood. I used to watch anime, so I’m looking forward to this. Takumi Kitamura plays the main role. I’m surprised by how big the project is since it involves building a whole business district, “Miwa (@miwaclover25) said on Twitter.
Plot Summary
As of this writing, the streaming giant hasn’t given any official plot details about its live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho, but we expect the beginning to show how Yusuke Urameshi becomes the Underworld Detective after his heroic sacrifice. It will probably show how Yusuke meets Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama and their adventures in Labyrinth Castle.
Even though the Dark Tournament Saga is an essential part of the anime/manga series, I think the live-action version must show what happened before.
Yusuke’s first adventures in the Spirit World and with his team of fighters will probably be shown in the first season.
Netflix ended Cowboy Bebop’s live-action version after only one season, so the live-action Yu Yu Hakusho must get enough views for the streaming giant to give it another season.
