Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Beta Dates
A series of open betas for MW2 were held in September 2022 by Infinity Ward to give players a chance to test the title ahead of time. Pre-orderers of the game were eligible for these.
Similar to previous years, PlayStation gamers had the earliest and longest access. Sadly, the betas are now over, so you can no longer play the game for free, but they gave us a lot to think about.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Release Date and Trailer
Release day for Modern Warfare 2 was October 28, 2022. Although Infinity Ward handled the majority of the game’s development, ten additional studios are said to have contributed to support roles, though this kind of resource sharing is nothing new for the series.
However, if you pre-ordered the game digitally, you could begin playing the campaign before it officially began on October 20. You can watch the full reveal trailer for Modern Warfare 2 below, which officially unveiled the game.

It provided a preview of the game’s campaign, which took place across several locations and appeared to be an exhilarating ride. Additionally, the launch trailer, which displays even more, is at the top of this page.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Platforms
In order to maximise sales, Call of Duty typically releases on every platform available. However, in January 2021, Xbox announced that it was purchasing Activision, the series’ publisher. The news shocked the neighbourhood because it raised the spectre that Call of Duty might one day become an Xbox hardware-exclusive series for consoles. Although that is eventually possible, Modern Warfare 2 is unaffected.
The game was released before the agreement was finalised, and because of ongoing agreements with PlayStation, at least the following major COD release in 2023 should also be available on PS4 and PS5. Once those contracts expire, Microsoft has also stated that it plans to keep the franchise on PlayStation. Modern Warfare 2 is currently available on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, as well as a long-overdue return to Steam.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Story and Setting
The single-player campaign of the game, allegedly codenamed Project Cortez internally, is said to take place in South America during the American-led War on Drugs, although the first trailer didn’t really confirm or deny this.
The game would be even gritty Ter than Modern Warfare 2019, which already leaned more toward realism than Call of Duty has for a while, with missions like Clean House featuring realistic room clearances and night vision, according to additional reporting by Tom Henderson.
Since Infinity Ward has been working on the game since the release of Modern Warfare, the campaign may benefit from some nice additions like real narrative choices and occasionally jamming guns that can really leave you up the creek without a paddle.
In the plot, Captain Price’s Task Force 141 will battle Colombia’s drug cartels through covert operations that won’t be as militarised and instead emphasise stealth and acuity. After Infinity Ward confirmed their appearances in May 2022, we know that significant characters like Captain Price and Gaz will return, along with returning figures from the original games in the form of Soap and Ghost. You can see them all in that trailer.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay
The gameplay for the upcoming Infinity Ward game will undoubtedly carry over significantly from the previous Modern Warfare, but there is still room for some additions and improvements. This course of action is confirmed by the Summer Games Fest’s first gameplay showcase. Even though it is only a campaign showcase, you can see that it has a low time-to-kill and is therefore a fairly hardcore shooter. The beloved VLK 3.0 optic on an assault rifle, the Vector SMG, and Molotov cocktails as throwables are just a few examples of recognisable equipment that has made a comeback.
Given the level’s colour scheme, it’s fair to say that it doesn’t appear particularly innovative at the moment, despite the shipping containers moving around the boat in the demo’s latter half being an intriguing twist. Infinity Ward claims that MW2’s multiplayer maps are, on average, smaller than MW2019’s, which is encouraging. This is demonstrated in Farm 18’s showcase, which is included below and also includes the first examples of real multiplayer gameplay. The majority of the maps, including this one, are cramped and close quarters, as we discovered during the beta testing of the game. Maps for Ground War, however, will undoubtedly defy that trend.

It sounds intriguing that the developer has been working hard on AI to make your opponent’s more realistic, and we’ll also get a new version of Gunsmith to let us customise our firearms in minute detail. According to reports, this has sliders to fine-tune how much weight is on your gun’s barrel. There are more vehicles than ever with more realistic damage and permanent husks when they’re destroyed, and swimming appears to be going to be a much more common part of gameplay with some guns allowing shooting underwater. These cars were the focus of some gameplay leaks, and a clip that you can find on Twitter demonstrates how players can jump between them and commandeer them from foes.
