Skyrim: Plot
It is now 4E 201 and 200 years have passed since the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. After the death of the High King of Skyrim, the country faces the possibility of civil war. One side wants to leave the Third Empire, while the other wants to stay a part of it. The Elder Scrolls’ prediction that this schism would be the last step in the dragons’ return to rule under the Nordic god of destruction Alduin only makes matters worse.
After being caught with the Stormcloaks in an ambush by the Imperial Legion, the player begins the game on a cart headed for the butcher. The dragon Alduin strikes as the player places their head on the block. Hadvar, several Stormcloaks, and their leader and fellow prisoner Ulfric Stormcloak help the player escape in the midst of the mayhem. Ralof, the Stormcloak who arrived with Ulfric, or Hadvar, the Imperial soldier tasked with reading off the names of the prisoners being sent to their execution, are the two options available to the player.
The player later discovers that they are Dovahkiin, or Dragonborn, a person tasked with taking down Alduin and the dragons, after helping and winning the favour of Jarl Balgruuf the Greater. The player eventually encounters Delphine and Esbern, two of the last two Blades still alive, and enrols in the prestigious Greybeards of High Hrothgar.
