Rubin was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 26, 1976. On Long Island, he was raised in a relatively secular Jewish home. He spent his teenage years in Syosset, New York, followed by thirteen years on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Career
In New York City in 1998, Rubin began his comedy career by performing stand-up and attending open-mic events. In 1999, he interned at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
In 2000, Rubin continued his career in New York City at the Comedy Cellar. Later that same year, he and other Comedy Cellar artists illegally taped a public-access television series dubbed The Anti-Show at NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza studios.

In 2002, he co-founded several New York City comedy clubs, including Joe Franklin’s Comedy Club and The Comedy Company in Times Square, where he performed stand-up comedy until 2007.
