On February 2, 1953, Duane Lee Chapman, who later became known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, was born in Denver, Colorado. He is the son of Wesley Duane Chapman, a welder who became a bail bondsman, and Barbara Darlene Chapman. Wesley Duane Chapman died in 2000.
There are three of them. When Chapman was 15, he ran away from home and joined a biker gang called the Devils’ Disciples. The Dog was in a car while a friend killed a drug dealer with a gun. In 1976, Dog was found guilty of first-degree murder and five years in prison.
He went to jail for 18 months, and his wife, LaFonda, left him. Chapman was sent to Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas, for 18 months. In January 1979, he was released. At the time, a correctional officer gave him the idea to become a bounty hunter. Due to his felony conviction, Dog is not allowed to own a gun and can’t go to the United Kingdom.
The Capture of Andrew Luster
In June 2003, Chapman made headlines worldwide when he caught Andrew Luster, heir to the cosmetics company Max Factor. Luster was accused of drugging and raping many women, but he had already left the country in the middle of his trial. In his absence, 86 charges against Luster were found to be true.
Luster was caught in Mexico by Chapman, his son Leland, and his friend Tim Chapman. The two Chapmans are not related, which is strange. The four were pulled over and sent to prison on their way to take Luster to jail. The police found out who Luster was and sent him to California to start his 125-year sentence.
Bail was not given to the other three men. Dog’s wife, Beth Chapman, told the media, and the men were granted bail. They did what their lawyer told them to do and left Mexico, making them international bailers. Three years later, just a few days before the crime was no longer a crime, and the three were arrested by U.S. Marshals and put in jail on behalf of the Mexican government.

Chapman went to court the next day. They were all charged with illegal bounty hunting and taking someone’s freedom without permission. The men were given bail and told to wear devices that track their movements.
In 2007, a group of state representatives asked for Dog the Bounty Hunter’s extradition charges to be dropped, and the resolution was passed. On August 2, 2007, all of the charges against the three men were dropped by a Mexican court.
Reality TV Career of Dog The Bounty Hunter
He has been on Take This Job and Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege, and Justice, both reality TV shows. The first episode of his show Dog the Bounty Hunter aired on A&E in 2004. It told how Dog and his partners caught criminals and people who skipped bail.
The show ran for eight years before being taken off the air in 2012. Ozzy Osbourne was the one who sang the famous theme song. In September 2012, CMT said it had ordered a new show called Dog and Beth: On the Hunt, which would start airing in April 2013. Chapman, his wife Beth, and their son were on the show, which used the same format as the first.
His son had left the old show in 2012, but in the new front, they both had parts. Dog’s Most Wanted, a spin-off with Dog and Beth, ran for one season in 2019. It aired for three years before being stopped in 2016.
