George Carlin’s Net Worth: How Much His Worth at the Time of His Death?
On May 12, 1937, George Carlin was born in New York City. He was the son of Patrick Carlin, the Sun’s advertising manager and an Irish immigrant, and Mary Beary, his secretary and an American with Irish roots. Carlin grew up in a Roman Catholic family, but he didn’t believe in God. He died on June 22, 2008, in Santa Monica, California.
His parents split up when he was only two months old because his father was an alcoholic. His mother and older brother, Patrick Jr., raised him. Carlin joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 18. There, he learned how to be a radar technician. He also tried being a D.J. at the KJOE radio station in Shreveport, Louisiana, but his results were mixed.
The Career of George Carlin
When he was a teenager, he met Jack Burns, who was also a D.J., and the two of them started a comedy team. The Wright Brothers, a morning show on KDAY in Hollywood, was made after the two moved to California and made an audition tape. Even though they stopped working together after two years, they stayed close friends.
Carlin made about $250,000 a year when he was in his late 60s. In the 1970s, he changed into the persona that made him famous. In 1977, he did the first of 14 stand-up specials for HBO. Carlin’s “Seven Dirty Words” comedy routine was at the center of the case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation. The Supreme Court ruled 5–4 that the government has the right to stop indecent material from being broadcast on public airwaves.

Late in his career, Carlin began to use his jokes to make fun of modern American culture. He was a regular guest on The Tonight Show for 30 years and hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live. He often talked about what was going on in the United States and made fun of things that Americans did that were too much.
Carlin came in second on the list of the 100 best stand-up comedians made by Comedy Central in 2004. Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor were first and third on the list. “It’s Bad for Ya,” his last HBO special, was filmed less than four months before he died. As a tribute to the late author, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor was given to his estate in 2008.
