Josh Flagg was born in Los Angeles, California on August 20, 1985. He is the son of Los Angeles residents Michael and Cindy (Platt) Flagg. He is the grandson of Herman Platt, philanthropist, electronics industry businessman, and Jewish leader, and the great-grandson of Benjamin Platt, founder, and proprietor of the Platt Music Corporation chain of stores. Flagg is the grandson of American (Romanian-born) fashion industry entrepreneur and designer Edith Flagg, who was one of the first designers in the United States to import polyester as a fashion cloth. Edith was eventually recognized for her recurring position on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, which she shared with her grandson.

Flagg grew up in Los Angeles and attended Brentwood School, an elite school in the Brentwood neighborhood. Flagg left Brentwood in 2003 and enrolled in Beverly Hills High School, where he graduated the following year.

Flagg lives in Beverly Hills, California, and bought a micro-estate above the Sunset Strip from Jeffrey Katzenberg’s son, writer/producer David Katzenberg, in January 2013. In 2015, he sold the home to Nicolas Pakzad, the son of designer Bijan Pakzad. Flagg purchased the estate of Tony Award-winning producer Michael Fierman in June 2015.

The estate is a few houses down the street from Paul McCartney’s home, which he purchased from Courtney Love, and is on a street lined with previous and present celebrity owners such as Don Johnson, Prince, and Ozzy Osbourne.
