Early Life

On November 16th, 1973, during the civil war in Beirut, Lebanon, Marcus Anthony Lemonis entered the world. Abdallel and Nadia, his biological parents, abandoned him at an orphanage when he was just four days old, giving him the name Ricardo.

He was adopted as an infant by Sophia and Leo Lemonis of Miami, Florida. This made him the great nephew of Anthony Abraham, an executive at two large Chevrolet dealerships.

Marcus was introduced to the auto industry by Abraham at an early age. However, after finishing up at Christopher Columbus High School, the young man decided to give political science a shot at Marquette University, where he eventually earned a degree in 1995.

Business Career

The Lebanese-American, fresh from college, ran for the Florida legislature as a Democrat. But he was unsuccessful, so he went to work for one of Anthony Abraham’s car lots instead.

For this reason, he became close with legendary auto mogul Lee Iacocca, who suggested he buy Holiday RV Superstores. Through the company he co-founded, FreedomRoads, he began purchasing RV dealerships in 2004.

The startup merged with Camping World two years later, and in 2011, both companies merged with Good Sam Enterprises. The company bought both Gander Outdoors and The House Boardshop in 2017. A unanimous vote resulted in Lemonis being appointed CEO of the aforementioned corporations.

A Profession in Television

Marcus Lemonis made his first appearance on television on two episodes of NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice. While in Miami to help out local businesses, he made an appearance on ABC’s Secret Millionaire in 2012.

The following year, CNBC gave him his own show, The Profit, in which he made investments in failing but potentially lucrative small businesses. He created 2017’s The Partner to find people to assist him in running his businesses in The Profit.

As of 2021, however, Marcus was rumoured to be hurting local businesses rather than helping them. CNBC and Marcus parted ways after Marcus’ contract for The Profit had expired. A new HGTV home improvement show starring him will premiere later this year.

Personal Life

Lemonis tied the knot with fellow business owner Ila Penfold in 2003. During the rough patch in their relationship, Marcus dated Bethenny Frankel of The Real Housewives of New York City. In 2017, he and his first wife Ila filed for divorce.
