Two years after Season 2 ended, The Umbrella Academy will return with its eagerly awaited third season this summer. The Netflix series, which follows the Hargreeves brothers, a group of adopted children all born on the same day with distinct superpowers, departed from the original comic book (a tendency that will continue in Season 3) but brought Gerard Way’s vision to life on the small screen.
But when the show returns, what can we expect? Everything we know about The Umbrella Academy season 3, including who’s returning and when has been assembled here.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3: Release Date
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 was announced in November 2020. The new season began filming three months later in February 2021.
Showrunner Steve Blackman relieved most of the fan anxiety during SXSW by announcing that The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will launch globally on Netflix on Wednesday, June 22.
The announcement was preceded by a brief teaser video, which showed the Umbrellas taking on the Sparrows and then disclosed the date for the season’s release. So make a note of it on your calendars!

The Umbrella Academy Season 3: What to expect?
It is stated in the official Season 3 narrative synopsis provided by Netflix that the Sparrows and Hargreeves will clash, but that will only be the beginning of their difficulties. The Hargreeves will have to negotiate their new connection with an alternate version of themselves while also attempting to avert yet another disaster and find a means to return to their original time period. That’s a lot of trouble to condense into ten episodes, to say the least.
Netflix argues that in order to achieve any of these objectives, the Hargreeves will have to put aside their conflicts with the Sparrows. “All they have to do now is persuade Dad’s new and potentially better family to assist them in putting right what their arrival has caused wrong.” Additionally, it mentions “obstacles, setbacks, and surprises” that will be experienced in the upcoming season.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3: Episode titles
There will be ten episodes in the third season of The Umbrella Academy. Showrunner Steve Blackman revealed the names of the future episodes, although it’s anyone’s guess what they imply. The titles of the new episodes are as follows:
- Meet the Family
- The World’s Biggest Ball of Twine
- Pocket Full of Lightning
- Kindest Cut
- Auf Wiedersehen
- Wedding at the End of the World
- Six Bells
The Umbrella Academy Season 3: Sparrow academy
Since that’s where Season 2 ended, we can presume Season 3 will focus on the Sparrow Academy’s mysteries. The comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, on which the program is based, give a hint as to what this bizarro Umbrella Academy is all about.
In “Hotel Oblivion,” the third book in the Umbrella Academy trilogy, it is revealed that Reginald had locked up all of the bad guys the team had defeated in jail in outer space. The Hargreeves clan is the target of all of their vengeance after they return to Earth.
To their relief, the Umbrella Academy receives assistance from a group of superheroes that look suspiciously like them, but use bird patches instead of umbrella patches as their insignia.
According to all indications, Reginald Hargreeves adopted a much larger number of extraordinary children than the original seven, and he trained this new group under the name of the Sparrow Academy. We’re hoping we won’t have to wait too long to find out the answer.
