Snapchat is rolling out a variety of new features for its messaging app, which seem to be influenced by its competitors. The company recently unveiled new tools, including the “Timeline editor,” designed to assist creators in producing better content within the app, along with a feature to save public stories.
In a blog post published on Thursday, Snapchat introduced the new timeline editor. This feature will be available to creators in the US, allowing them to view their videos in a chronological timeline. It’s akin to the editor found on Instagram, enabling users to insert or edit clips, add music, lenses, and more. This enhancement aims to help creators produce more engaging and high-quality content on Snapchat.
Additionally, the app is introducing an option to auto-save stories to public Snapchat profiles, as detailed in an article found here. This functionality allows users to save publicly shared stories and incorporate them into their profiles, eliminating the frustration associated with missing a story once it expires after 24 hours. The resemblance to Instagram’s story highlights may seem familiar.
Another exciting addition is the “Create a Video” feature, which allows creators to transform saved memories into videos. Users can choose memories, add a song from Snapchat’s library, and select a template to create their video. This feature is being rolled out globally but is currently available only on iOS.
Moreover, Snapchat is offering valuable insights for creators. These analytics will enable them to monitor their top content by views over the last 28 days, as well as track returning viewers who engaged with their posts and stories over the past 12 days. Creators will also be able to see the total time viewers spent watching their content, where their content was viewed—such as in Spotlight, Stories, or chats—and the average percentage of their posts that users completed watching.
All these new enhancements and features are set to empower creators in refining their content, while the insights provided will assist them in understanding which types of content resonate with their audience.
