People across the country have expressed strong frustration with how ICE operates. While protests have been an effective way to voice dissent about recent events, some individuals have found a more cathartic approach to cope with the situation. In Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, a local store has crafted a series of ICE-themed piñatas. Thanks to this store, community members can now pick up a stick, bat, or any tool used for breaking piñatas and release some tension by striking these papier-mâché figures. And yes, there’s candy to be enjoyed as well.
X user Wu Tang is for the Children shared a video capturing Dulcelandia, a shop in Little Village, Chicago, offering ICE piñatas for sale. ICE’s controversial tactics, including the detention of individuals and even some legal citizens, have sparked widespread anger. Protests have served as one method for people to demonstrate their opposition to ICE’s practices, but frustration remains high. These piñatas provide a unique and therapeutic outlet for many. While it’s important to clarify that violence against law enforcement officers is unacceptable, striking a piñata is certainly a different matter altogether.

Given the backlash against ICE, and the fact that some agents cover their faces, many feel that adding masks to the piñatas would make them more lifelike. Meanwhile, some have expressed enthusiasm and support for these novelty piñatas.

Given the current climate, there is hope that Dulcelandia will continue to supply these piñatas. Many participants plan to bring them to protests, suggesting the store will enjoy steady business in the days ahead.
