A strange hit-and-run event unfolded in Discovery Bay, California, when a boat crowded with passengers collided with a jet ski and then fled the scene. Videos shared on Instagram documented the incident.
From the footage, a man was calmly drifting on his jet ski, standing as the waves gently moved him forward. Suddenly, a boat approached, packed with several people who were loudly laughing, chatting, and clearly intoxicated. Initially, the jet ski rider passed the boat without any trouble. However, after circling the dock, he encountered the boat again, and contact was made.
The boat then accelerated, attempting to weave between other docked boats. Unfortunately, it crashed into the jet ski, instantly throwing the rider into the water and causing onlookers to scream in alarm. Instead of stopping to assess the damage or assist, the boat sped up further, swerved sharply, struck the dock once more, and fled, colliding with additional boats along the way.
Another video from the incident shows the victim climbing out of the water onto the dock, rather than that on his jet ski. The woman filming can be heard saying, “He’s on the dock, but they’ve hit so many boats. So many boats.” The clip also offers a clearer view of how quickly the boat sped away, with the boisterous partygoers seemingly unconcerned about the damages they left behind.
The video ignited fury on social media, with many viewers demanding the arrest of those on the boat. Comments included remarks such as, “WTF!!! 🤬 Drinking, boating, and egos are never a good mix. Hope whoever is okay and the psycho is apprehended.”
One commenter emphasized, “What about the fact he tried to kill the guy on the jetski. F*ck everything else smh.” Another stated, “Welp… that’s how you lose your boat in 60 seconds.” Some users even outlined potential legal charges, including “Attempted vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident… boating while intoxicated, to name a few.”
However, another participant remarked that such reckless behavior is not uncommon in the area: “The alcoholics that live in that city… This isn’t new 😂.”
Outraged users called for all members on the boat to be held accountable for enabling the driver’s dangerous actions, describing the event as both a “felony level assault as well as hit and run.” Yet, some cynically noted that these partygoers were likely privileged young adults who might avoid facing consequences, saying, “My daddy will buy me another boat and I won’t see a day in jail 😂😂😂.”
Although the suspects have not yet been identified, law enforcement agencies, including the sheriff’s office and Contra Costa County Fire officials, are now investigating the incident.
