In response to unsettling events in the United States, members of the White House Faith Office assembled to pray for the nation. However, this gathering faced harsh criticism online, with many labeling it as a “MAGA theatre.”
A video was shared on X with the caption, “WH Faith Office at work…” In the footage, at least 12 officials, all dressed formally and wearing ID badges around their necks, stood in a circle in front of the White House in Washington, D.C.
The faith office members were engaged in an intense prayer session led by a woman dressed in a white pantsuit, who was also holding a Louis Vuitton bag. Next to her stood another woman in a knee-length blue dress. The prayer leader began by saying, “We just thank you right now, Lord. From the east, the west, the north, and the south, you will shake America with your power and your glory.”
She continued with declarations over the White House, canceling every “assignment of the enemy.” “This nation was birthed to be one nation under God, and we are standing on the soil of the White House, and we are declaring on your word, every place that our foot will tread, you will give it to us,” she proclaimed.
Encouraged by the affirmations from her colleagues, the woman pressed on in prayer, urging God to bring America back to Him. Her voice trembled with emotion as she passionately prayed, “We will come back to God. Nothing will stop this nation.”
Despite the intensity of the prayer, many online viewers doubted the sincerity behind it. One commenter wrote, “Jesus commanded not to pray in public because those who do are arrogant and false.” Another remarked, “Gross. I’m sure the God of the Old Testament would love a skirt above the knees, too.”
Several users criticized the officials’ attire as inappropriate. “Blue dress is too short and tight. White jacket lady wearing pants. Both women have haircuts and makeup. This is not Pentecostal prayer. This is MAGA theatre,” one user stated.
One commenter observed that if the woman leading the prayer were serious, she would have set aside her designer bag. Another replied that she likely couldn’t put down the Louis Vuitton bag “provided to her by tithe funding.”
Furious, a different user added, “As she holds her LV purse. You’re so Christian. Sell that purse and help the homeless.”
One user cited the Bible, noting that God fed the hungry and clothed the naked, while government officials were accused of depriving the poor of food and healthcare. This commenter also condemned the officials for “breaking up families of non-violent, non-criminal immigrants,” warning they had a special place in hell.
